Celebrating the Disabled Community: UK Disability History Month and IDPD

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on two causes close to our hearts: UK Disability History Month (14th November - 20th December) and International Day of People with Disabilities (3rd December).

These two dates remind us to reflect, celebrate, and continue to work towards equality for disabled people everywhere. But at Human Beauty, we believe that recognition shouldn’t be limited to a single day or month - it’s something we need to embrace every day.

This year, we’re combining these two causes into one powerful campaign, focusing on the words and experiences that shape our journeys as disabled individuals.

What is UK Disability History Month?

First launched in 2010, UK Disability History Month (UKDHM) is an annual campaign dedicated to promoting disabled people’s rights and exploring the history of their fight for equality and inclusion.

This year's theme, Disability, Livelihood and Employment, sheds light on the barriers disabled people face in the workplace and calls for systemic change.

What is International Day of People with Disabilities

Recognised globally on 3rd December, International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPD) was set up by the United Nations to celebrate the achievements of disabled people while raising awareness about the importance of disability inclusion worldwide.

We used this day to celebrate our community. You guys make everything we do possible, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

How Human Beauty is Celebrating

This year, we’ve taken a personal approach to mark UK Disability History Month and IDPD by amplifying the voices of our community and sharing the real, lived experiences of disabled people.

Our campaign focuses on the words that define our journeys as disabled individuals - both past and present. We’ve collaborated with our community to share the words they used to associate with their disabilities and how those words have evolved over time.

Through this campaign, we hope to challenge the stigma surrounding disability and inspire conversations that drive change.

Celebrating Our Community - Every Day

Causes like UKDHM and IDPD are essential for raising awareness, but the work doesn’t stop there. At Human Beauty, we’re committed to creating a world where accessibility, inclusion, and empowerment are a part of everyday life, not just on special occasions.
